Why Ezzy sails?

Ezzy sails have always been known as something special. Due to a slightly different approach and philosophy, the company is often unjustifiably labelled an outsider. The approach to making and selling sails is really different from the competition and many windsurfers who are not better acquainted with Ezzy prefer to choose sails from another manufacturer. Meanwhile, those who ride Ezzy sails and know the whole concept will have a hard time changing the brand. Ezzy has some really effective and simple solutions that make it much easier for average users and optimize both rigging the sail and riding it.

How it all started….

David Ezzy made his first sail with the black-and-white eagle logo in 1983. He then continued to make his own sails until 1985, when he took a job at North Sails, where he first made wave sails and later took control of production of all models. The story of North Sails came to an end in 1992, as with the change of leadership, the health situation for employees at the factory in Sri Lanka deteriorated sharply. David walked away, and eventually other factory employees joined him and together they started writing a new story.

David’s two main guides are caring for employees and the quality of their lives. Today, the sails are made in a new, 2000 m2 factory, where they have excellent working conditions.

Ezzy production…

While the sails are tested under the superior conditions offered by Maui. After perfecting the latest models, the entire production takes place in Sri Lanka.

Why is production taking place in Sri Lanka?

Sri Lanka is known as a country with one of the highest literacy rates in Asia. On the other hand, the state has very strict laws regarding working hours, work and prevention of child labour.

Beside excellent working conditions and great care for the staff, Ezzy also has its own foundation, through which a certain proportion of every sail sold is dedicated to the purchase of school supplies for the children of employees at the factory in Sri Lanka.

Ezzy sails….

Ezzy’s different approach is already reflected in the working and production conditions. The same different philosophy is in order when producing the sails. The company is known for the fact that their main guideline in making a sail is for buyer to ensure him to keep the sail for as long as possible. The quality of the materials, the seams and the procedures themselves are often a step ahead of everyone. If you are looking for a durable, resistant and quality sail, Ezzy is definitely in the first place among the competition.

Ezzy has very different approach when it comes to the marketing, visual image changes of sails and (unnecessary) model changes. For other manufacturers it is typical to completely repaint all models every year. The revolution in the shapes themselves is often only in the marketing descriptions. The truth is that nowadays the sails and all windsurfing equipment in general are already so developed that it is almost impossible to make a complete revolution of all models every year, as many people try to show. Evolutions of details, materials and minor corrections of the shapes are of course possible and this is exactly what Ezzy is betting on. In order to maximize the optimization of a particular model, Ezzy focuses every year only on certain models, their details and materials, in order to improve them. It makes more durable, high-quality and light sails an even better and even lighter one.

Ezzy sails are also among the best in the world in terms of innovation. According to most, Ezzy Cheetah has been known as the best "freeride" sail without cams for many years. They also do not deviate with wave sails. The sails boast with exceptional manoeuvrability, lightness and a strong and durable construction. Compared to other manufacturers, they are still the weakest in the field of slalom sails, as they do not have them at all. Ezzy Lion has 2 cambers and is considered an excellent "power freeride" sail, but it is still a bit far from "real" slalom sails. Who would blame them for this due to their position on Maui, in the heart of the waves. :)

Each Ezzy sail is assembled in the factory and optimally rigged. On the beach, you just need to rig the sail and if you have a suitable mast, the sail will work optimally. All Ezzy sails also feature Ezzy’s calibrated downhaul system, which means you can set your sail exactly the same as David Ezzy. The sail needs to be downhauled to the point that the marks on the sail align with the lower edge of the mast, and you are already ready to windsurf.

Ezzy masts ...

When we talk about Ezzy sails, it is necessary to mention their masts as well. Basically, Ezzy has two series of masts - Legacy with 60% carbon and Hookipa with 91% carbon. Even with the masts, Ezzy deviates slightly from the well-known philosophy. Ezzy masts basically only exist in the RDM version (skinny masts). You won’t find Ezzy SDM mast even for freeride sails. Ezzy masts can also be purchased separately - just the top or the bottom. Masts are also compatible with each other, which means that you can use the lower part of the mast with a length of 370 cm and the upper part of the mast with a length of 340 cm.

Ezzy Hookipa 91% of carbon masts                                                                    Ezzy Legacy with 60% of carbon masts

In this case, we recommend that you use masts from the same series - Legacy or Hookipa.

Of course, you can also use other brands of masts in combination with Ezzy sails, but we recommend using the original mast, as Ezzy sails are most compatible with Ezzy masts. If you want to get the most out of a sail, this is definitely the best way.

If you use another mast in combination with an Ezzy sail, we recommend that you watch this video, in which you will learn how to optimally fit the sail to another mast:

Summary: If you are looking for a high quality sail with excellent driving characteristics and low weight, Ezzy is right for you. Ezzy sails are very reliable ones and made with the intention of serving you for a long time! In addition to all the above features, the advantages of the Ezzy are: price, calibration system for trimming sails and mutual compatibility of masts.
